A Prophetic Word for You Today

I wrote this down sometime ago for someone specific.

I realized that it was probably also a “general” prophetic word, meaning, a word from God that is applicable to many of us in different situations.

Prophesy at its simplest form is speaking forth the heart of God. It can be as pure and simple as “God loves you” said to someone who feels they are unworthy of God’s love or as deep and powerful as a specific answer to a question someone has been asking God.

I am not a prophet and I do not regularly prophesy; however, I pray with The Apostle Paul who said, “I wish you would all prophesy..” (I Corinthians 14). And I wish and pray that for myself to prophesy also.

Any conversation, teaching or practice of Prophesy can seem strange to those of you who believe that…

• Prophesy no longer exists, in that God no longer speaks specifically and individually to people on behalf of others

• Hold prophets and prophesy to the incorrect Old Testament standard instead of the New Testament standard that Jesus ushered in

• Only Christians with specialized gifting should be practicing prophesy

And it is in this area of “Practicing” that I like to briefly wade into.

I practice holiness, which means I do not get it right but I keep working on it.

I practice worship, which means many of my attempts fall short yet I continue to worship (sometimes with soul only, without my spirit man attached).

I practice prayer, talking with God, which often means me not listening for God’s voice and I wind up answering for God. Yes, I know! It sounds crazy but I think you might do it, also! You know, start out praying and wind up talking to yourself!?

I practice kindness and still wind up hurting people EVEN when I am intentionally putting kindness into practice.

I practice clear communication, which often sounds clear to me but like muddy waters to the person I am wanting to clearly communicate.

I practice good financial stewardship and yet still blow my money on foolish things.

Get it?

When we get into The Practice Mindset we give ourselves permission to get it wrong, to do a do-over and to shut the voice of shame that is so often loud and boisterous whenever we try to attempt something good and Godly.

The Practice Mindset means we get to swing at the ball and miss over and over again,
all the while celebrating the times we connect with the ball

The Practicing Christian is unafraid to start loving others, to suffer through awkward silences in prayer, to fearfully tread towards laying hands on someone for healing or to start practicing hearing and speaking for the heart and mind of God.

How about it?

Will you pray in agreement with scripture and ask God to use you to prophesy to others? And then start putting it into practice?

My Prophetic Word

You are not alone.  

You are not without a husband. 

You are not without a covering. 

You are not without a leader, mentor, lover, father or mother. 

You are not alone. 

The human comforter and confidant you think is now missing from your life?  You have better, you have The One who was always interested in you, in everything about you.  

The strength and love and hope and future that you had placed in that human that is now gone?  You have stronger, more loving and the deepest of hope and the greatest of futures in The One who is strength, hope, love and your Future. 

You are not alone. 

Yes, it feels like you are. 

Yes, you think you are.

Yes, it sounds as if you are. 

Yes, by all appearance you are. 

But you are not. 

The One who will never leave nor forsake you is right here, right now. 

He has never left you.

He will never leave you.

You are not without.

Nothing has been and nothing will be held back from you that you need in this moment. 

You might not have what you want but you have what you need.

You might not have what all that you think you need for tomorrow but for this moment, for right now, you have The One that you truly need.

You might not have everything but you will never, ever have nothing. 

And you will certainly have all that you need for today EVEN AS it looks, sounds and feels like you won’t have all that you need tomorrow.

All the wisdom that you need right now is available to you. 

Just ask. 

And peace. 

It is there for the asking, peace that will blow your mind.

And joy.

It is there for the asking, joy that you will not be able to describe.
